Microsoft has announced that Microsoft Defender for Endpoint was named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection.
The post points to Defender’s endpoint detection and response capabilities, global threat intelligence, coordinated signals across endpoints, identities, email, apps, cloud, and data, and newer work such as attack disruption, custom telemetry, simplified onboarding, and agentic endpoint security.
Why It Matters
For Microsoft 365 environments, Defender is strongest when it is not treated as a single endpoint product. Its value improves when device health, identity risk, email security, Intune compliance, and alert response are joined together.
The practical question for most businesses is whether Defender is fully deployed, correctly licensed, onboarded across all endpoints, and reviewed often enough for alerts to lead to action.
