Ubiquiti has announced the UniFi G6 Edge Series, a new camera line focused on simpler deployment, stronger edge intelligence, and flexible recording options.
The range includes dome, turret, and bullet models, with selected bullet variants adding radar and long-range infrared. Ubiquiti also highlights larger image sensors, varifocal optics, on-device object detection, vector encoding, semantic search, and integration with UniFi NVR systems.
Why It Matters
Camera selection should follow the actual security requirement: entrance monitoring, perimeter coverage, low-light areas, number plate context, stock rooms, customer areas, or staff-only spaces. More AI features are useful only when the camera is placed correctly and retention, access, signage, and privacy responsibilities are clear.
For UniFi sites, the G6 Edge direction suggests more intelligence is moving to the camera itself while still keeping the management and recording options inside the UniFi ecosystem.
